For the past 15 years, a Yonkers area teacher has been instructing aspiring cooks at a local high school. Now, she has the opportunity to show off her culinary talent to the rest of the country.
Daniela Savone, a former English teacher at Mamaroneck High School and the Italian cooking instructor in North Rockland High School's continuing education program, auditioned for MasterChef, the reality TV cooking program for amateur chefs, back in October.
She made it to the top 80, then eventually the top 40, and will make an appearance on the show when it begins airing this month.
Savone had enough success on the program that she ended up resigning from her teaching career to pursue cooking.
People who land spots on reality TV competitions can use Print shops to create Signs and Banners for their friends and supporters back home. It is likely that people throughout Yonkers and the surrounding area will be hosting watching parties in support of Savone.
Savone will compete in the Italian Group on the program, with the goal of eventually being the only chef left standing at the end of the show's season. During the process, she will be mentored by a roster of restaurateurs and judges.
In addition to her experience as a cooking instructor, Savone comes from a line of cooks. Her dad has owned and operated an Italian deli in West Haverstraw. Savone herself has spent weekends working there for most of her life, and has also written a pair of cookbooks.
