In Yonkers, residents and businesses have been swift to take action and to do what they can to help the victims of the Hurricane Harvey events in Texas. Grocery store Stew Leonard's has two programs in place to help support Harvey's victims.
Over the course of the next three weeks, any change tossed into the Wishing Wells at one of Stew Leonard's six locations, including the one in Yonkers, will be donated to the Red Cross as it looks to help out those affected by the weather.
Banners can help the grocery stores let customers know where their change will be headed after they toss it into the well, and Stew Leonard's is currently in the process of putting up Signs and notices to let customers know about its donation plan.
A few days after it announced that it would donate the money from the Wishing Wells, the grocery store also revealed that it was putting collection bins in each store. Customers are encouraged to drop nonperishable items into the bins. Items collected will be sent to the Red Cross to help victims in Houston.
The Leonard family hopes to fill an entire trailer with donated items to help people in need. The store's owners have said that they will match all of the donations put forward by shoppers.
