Yonkers area pizzeria ranked best in the country

Frank Pepe's, a small pizza chain with a location in Yonkers, was recently named the top pizzeria in the US by the Daily Meal.

Frank Pepe's appears at the top of a list of the 101 best pizza places in America. Restaurants that get named to the top of "best-of" lists can use Stationery printers to make up Signs and certificates to advertise the fact.

The Daily Meal recommends that people who decide to give Frank Pepe's pizza a try sample the pizzeria's clam pie, no matter which location they visit. The clam pizza has littleneck clams that are freshly shucked, plus olive oil, grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, plenty of garlic, and oregano. There is also the option of adding bacon to the pizza.

Another recommendation is the tomato pie, which is available in the summer months and is made with locally-grown tomatoes.

The clam pizza is popular enough that a line Forms at the pizzeria starting around 11:30 am on weekends. According to the Daily Meal, the mixture of toppings makes the pizza "one of the most iconic dishes in America."

The pizzeria's first location opened in New Haven, Connecticut in 1925. Frank Pepe, the owner, created Napoletana-style pizza at the original location. He went on to open six additional locations in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The locations are now run by his 10 great grandchildren, who continue to use Pepe's recipes to make the pies, with recipes the same for all locations.
