The goal of #GivingTuesday, which takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is to encourage people to be generous and to support charitable organizations around the world.
This year, residents of Yonkers and Westchester will have ample opportunity to help local organizations on Giving Tuesday. The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester is organizing a campaign for the day.
The YMCA hopes to raise $25,000 on that today, beating last year's total of $18,000. The Board of Governors has issued a challenge and will double donations up to a $5,000 maximum.
Speaking to the Yonkers Daily Voice, Cynthia Delfino Rubino, the CEO of the YMCA and president, said:
“Everyone at our YMCA believes strongly in the cause. The work done by The Y strengthens the entire community. We are so proud that our Board has chosen to support the YMCA #GivingTuesday campaign with another matching gift challenge.”
Donations received on Giving Tuesday itself, November 28, will support childcare programs, youth government clubs, teen groups, summer camp programs, and swimming lessons.
Nonprofits that hope to raise money during special donation campaigns can use marketing services to get the word out.
