His initiative, ‘Restore New York’, recently awarded almost $81m in grant money to 71 municipalities across the state. Of that grant money, more than $8m will be going to municipalities in the Hudson Valley, including Yonkers.
Speaking of the program to the Yonkers Daily Voice, Governor Cuomo stated:
“Downtown communities are vital to keeping our economies thriving and to attracting businesses and families to put down their roots in New York. The Restore New York Communities Initiative recognizes communities teeming with potential and invests in their transformation and their future, and turns them into neighborhoods New Yorkers are proud to call home.”
Cities and municipalities that received the grant money can use Print shops to let residents know how the funds will be used. For example, Yonkers received $2.5 million in grants. The money will go towards the redevelopment of Cottage Place Gardens, a low-income public housing property that has fallen into extreme disrepair. With the funding, 16 blighted buildings will be demolished or restored and six new buildings will be created.
Other municipalities in the Hudson Valley to receive grant money include the City of New Rochelle, which received $1m to rehabilitate the New Rochelle Armory. The Village of Port Chester also received $1m for the razing of a building and the construction of a replacement building on Main Street.
