Yonkers agency honors locals at upcoming gala

Leake & Watts, a Yonkers-based nonprofit agency dedicated to supporting children, adults and families, will recognize the contributions of Agnes Hassell and her husband Gerald during its annual awards gala at the end of the month.

Agnes and Gerald Hassell are philanthropists who have supported the agency for many years. Agnes has served on the board of directors since 2006, while Gerald, the CEO of the Bank of New York Mellon, has been an active supporter of her work with the agency. The couple lives in Chappaqua.

The agency can use personalized Stationery to promote the event and to invite its supporters to attend. The aim of the fundraiser is to raise more than $500,000 for Leake & Watts' 43 programs across New York City and in Westchester County. Leake & Watts began as an orphanage in Manhattan in 1831. It now runs programs that reach more than 8,000 people, and that includes Head Start programs and foster care.

Bill Evans, the senior meteorologist from WABC-TV, will be the host and emcee for the gala, which will take place at the Pierre Hotel on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. The evening will include a live auction and presentations from some of the young people Leake & Watts has served.

General admission tickets are available for an $850 donation. Sponsorships are also available, starting at $15,000. The gala will start at 6:30 pm with a cocktail reception, on October 29. Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.
