To celebrate the holiday season, Yonkers-based Leake & Watts is organizing a toy drive.
Members of the community are invited to donated gift cards and unwrapped, new toys for children of a variety of ages. The agency is also willing to work with people who want to organize a toy drive or collection at their school or work.
Every year, the agency runs a number of programs that help young people up to the age of 21 in the area. The agency provides support to nearly 3,000 minors, ranging from education programs to foster care.
The collected toys will be given to children in a number of Leake & Watts' programs. Some of the toys will go to the 1,000 children in the foster care and preventative services programs. Others will go to the 700 preschoolers in the Early Childhood programs, or to infants and toddlers in the Early Head Start and Mother & Child programs.
The agency is also seeking gift cards for the 300 teenagers in the residential treatment center and for the 200 teenagers and young adults in the developmental disabilities programs. The agency can use flyer printing to let the public know what they need for the toy drive.
Along with donating toys or gift cards, people are also invited to volunteer to respond to children's letters to Santa, or to help distribute toys to the children in the agency's programs.
Donations are being accepted through December 15.
