Autistic people and others who have sensory processing issues sometimes find public places difficult to navigate, and a Yonkers attraction has carved out a space and time for them.
Through a partnership with The Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS) , LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester will be hosting two days this fall that will offer accommodations for those with sensory processing problems. Families who register can access social stories and other supports to help prepare their son or daughter for the occasion, and it is intended for those who are 17 and under.
The staff who will be on hand for the function will be well trained, and a selection of rooms will have lower lighting and sound levels. There will also be designated quiet rooms, and there will be a reduced number of visitors permitted to be on site during this event.
Legoland Discovery Center will be hosting this function from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and tickets start at $19.95. A printing services company can prepare kits that can be sent to each family that registers for this sort of function so that they can prepare their child for the activity.
This opportunity for all kids to join in the fun will be held on September 10, and it will be repeated on November 5. Its Facebook page can be consulted for the most up to date details about this program.
