Registration opens for Yonkers marathon

The second oldest marathon in the US is set to take place in Yonkers, New York next month.

The race has undergone a number of changes in recent years and the sponsors of the event, New York City Runs, might want to use printing services to highlight the developments.

Last year was the first time that more than 1,000 people took part in the contest. The course of the race has also changed over the last few years. At first, it was known to be incredibly difficult route and the marathon was used as a qualifying heat for athletes who wanted to run in the Olympics.

The current course, however, is a double loop. It has some mild hills and one major climb at the four-mile point. The mound is similar to ‘Heartbreak Hill’ in the Boston Marathon.

The entrants’ charge is $60 for the full race or $50 for the half-marathon. The registration fee for the Yonkers event is considerably lower than for any other competition of its kind in the US. As well as this, all participants receive a free shirt and medal, and are invited to attend a post-run party. Early registration for the marathon, which marks the event’s 88th anniversary, also means a discounted rate.

This year's race has been pushed back by a few weeks in the hope that cooler temperatures will help to attract more runners. The marathon starts at 8:00am on September 29 but registered runners can start signing in at 6:00am.
