It has taken nearly three years of planning, fundraising, and building, but the Bedford Playhouse near Yonkers should be ready to open its doors to the public over Memorial Day weekend.
On the agenda for opening weekend are the screening of two films – ‘ET’ and ‘Singin' in the Rain’, both of which will play in the playhouse's Main Theater, which has 167 seats and the largest screen in all of Westchester County.
The opening over Memorial Day weekend is something of a soft opening for the space. Only the main theater will be in operation and it plans on hosting a limited amount of programming over the summer months. The plan is to ramp up to a grand opening sometime in September.
Operators of theaters can use banner printing to let the public know when the space is open and what programs are on offer.
Starting in June, the Bedford Playhouse will begin screening first-run films. ‘The Incredibles 2’ will open on June 15 and ‘Ant Man and the Wasp’ will begin playing on July 6. Other events scheduled for the summer include an appearance by author Kerry Kennedy and an event with Will Reeve, both in June.
Over the summer, work will continue on the two additional theater spaces at the playhouse, as well as in the cafe. The plan is to open the entire space with a red carpet event and celebration on September 8.
