Junior League helps Yonkers students prepare for dorm life

One of the costs of college people don't mention often is the cost of outfitting a dorm room. Students living on-campus need the basics such as sheets, towels, and toiletries.

To help 26 high school students from Yonkers, the Junior League of Bronxville recently held a "Dorm Room Drive." The organization partnered with the Yonkers Partners in Education and the Guidance Center of Westchester to collect items from the community. The groups used Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond college registries to collect donations of items ranging from bedding, Stationery and Calendars, toiletries, blankets and towels.

The students who received the donations were participants in the Yonkers Partners in Education college prep program. The goal of the program is to provide students with tutoring and other tools to help them start and succeed in college careers.

Sheridan Denfeld, the president of the Junior League of Bronxville told the Yonkers Daily Voice:

"The young women . . . were all very happy and expressed genuine gratitude.. As a women’s organization, the JLB is thrilled to support these remarkable young women as they begin the next chapter in their lives."

This summer is the fourth year that the three organizations have worked together to help future college students. Many program students are the first of their family to graduate from high school or to attend college.

Organizations such as these regularly promote their activities using Flyers on campus or around schools and local businesses.
