On Sunday, May 8, residents of Yonkers were definitely noticing the rain when the first ‘Bicycle Sunday’ of the season was yet again postponed due to rain.
The event was originally scheduled for May 1, but moved to May 8 when it rained. It's now been rescheduled for this Sunday, May 15, unless it rains again.
For 42 years, the event has seen the stretch of the Bronx River Parkway from Yonkers to White Plains, totaling about six miles, closed to car traffic from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Instead, cyclists, walkers, runners, and skaters are encouraged to traverse the stretch highway freely and without being afraid of a quickly moving motor vehicle posing a danger.
The organizers of events like Bicycle Sunday often use Promotional Products to get the word out about the weekly event and encourage more residents to participate.
The rescheduled kick-off event is meant to feature a block party, hosted by New York-Presbyterian, between exits 9 and 10 on the parkway. Attendees can enjoy live music, a few raffles, and ice cream.
By closing the parkway to cars for a few hours on the weekends, county officials are hoping to encourage people to spend more time outdoors being active. Describing the program, Rob Astorino, a Westchester County executive, stressed the importance of enjoying the Parkway without a vehicle.
