Mini-Target in, Barnes & Noble out

It was recently announced that the Barnes & Noble in Forest Hills will be replaced by what Target refers to as a “flexible format store”.

The retailer has agreed to a 15-year-lease and expects to open up at the Austin Street location next year. The 20,795-square-foot store will be a mini version of a traditional Target outlet, but will nevertheless contain tech accessories, Apparel, groceries, and fresh produce, as well as health and beauty aids.

The Forest Hills bookstore is one of only three Barnes & Nobles in Queens, all of which are scheduled to close.

According to the property’s owner, Muss Development’s Jason Muss, after being at the location for 20 years, Barnes & Noble had chosen not to renew its lease. Barnes and Noble vice president David Deason, however, had a different perspective on the situation, saying:

“Despite our best efforts ... the respective property owners decided to lease to other tenants.”

The new mini-Target will be one of nine “flexible formal stores” being rolled out specifically for city residents across the country this year.

Business card printing services will have more than just the management team at the Target in Forest Hills to supply with freshly minted digital Business Cards, because New York will have another Target opening at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn as well.
