A call has been issued to Forest Hill residents who care about the natural world, as helping hands are needed for a local environmental service project.
The Forest Park Trust and NYC Parks have teamed up to offer an activity that will combine a walking workshop with a trail clean up. The activity is scheduled for mid-morning, and it will take place at Forest Park.
Those who register for this volunteer event will be picking up litter and other debris as they follow the Yellow Trail. There will be a facilitator on hand who is knowledgeable about local wild flora, and they will point out and identify various shrubs, trees, and wildflowers encountered. Everyone is asked to wear sturdy shoes and is also advised to bring their own water bottle. This “hike and pick” will run for two hours, and to help keep it organized, advance registration is mandatory.
Organizations that offer the public an opportunity to explore the natural world can help create a new crop of environmental stewards, and a flyer printing company will be pleased to support their work. They can craft species checklists, trail signage, basic field guides, and many other types of materials.
Forest Hills has been offered this chance to get back to nature on Saturday, June 13. Everyone is asked to be on site by 10:30 am.
