Forest Hills residents become super stewards

Trails often count on the generous spirit of volunteers to remain in top shape, and a Forest Hills area activity will create a new crop of Pathkeepers.

Registrants in the hands-on workshop coming up in Cunningham Park in Queens will learn how to become “super stewards” of its trail system. Advanced registration is required and those interested will need to fill out a waiver. The meet-up point for the session will be the parking lot at the park’s picnic area.

The three hours of training will teach how to identify trail conditions and assess any problems found, and participants will also find out how to mitigate the concerns that may come up. The importance of native plants and identifying introduced species is on the agenda, and the basics of arboriculture and pruning will also be covered. Everyone will need to bring a water bottle, with closed-toed shoes, long pants, and weather-appropriate clothing also necessities for the day.

A workshop or other learning activity may require handouts, and Stationery printers will be able to help. They can make Copies and also offer Graphic Design Services, bringing the two together at an affordable price.

This training session is scheduled for Saturday, December 20th, starting at 10:00 am. The contact email for the activity is melissa.rosenthal@naturalareasnyc.or. There is no charge to take part.
