It has been said that “fungi make the word go ’round” and a Forest Hills area event will offer a glimpse into the mysterious world of these important organisms.
Queens County Farm Museum provides an assortment of learning opportunities, and the “fabulous Fungi” installment of its Composting Series will be on offer in mid-October. Everyone in the session will walk away with both knowledge and take-home items.
The facilitator will explore the role fungi play in their environment and why they are so important. Everyone will find out how they are a vital part of the composting process by breaking down organic matter, and also how some species are essential plant partners. At the end of the class, everyone will receive an oyster mushroom growing kit so they can learn even more about them.
Providing the public with an opportunity to learn how they can get involved in environmental stewardship can help make them stakeholders, and workshops and classes are one way of doing so. Stationery printers can provide a variety of environmentally friendly options when it comes to printing services.
Queen Country Farm Museum will be showcasing just how fabulous fungi can be with this activity set for Saturday, October 17. It will start at 11:30 am. Registration is required and is still available at the time of writing, but there is no admission fee.
