The NYPD has initiated a program to connect to the public in a continuous and personal basis via Twitter.
Capt. Thomas Conforti, of our local 112th Precinct in Forest Hills, is one of five precinct commanders involved in this pilot project. Since the initiative commenced six weeks ago, Conforti – who previously had no Twitter account – has acquired 1,300 followers and sent 400 tweets.
Since his first post on April 15th, the precinct commander has tweeted about neighborhood crime but also about his own personal interests. According to Conforti, he tries to tweet about events that affect a large portion of the people he serves here in Forest Hills. He is especially interested in posting about police or emergency situations that, while important, don’t make the news.
Future business card printing projects for precinct commanders who become involved in the initiative will likely include their Twitter account username, or ‘handle’. Additionally, communities will want to instruct Print companies to include this information in future publications aimed at new or prospective residents.
Capt. Conforti believes that one of factors which led to him being chosen for the program is that his precinct had previously attempted to organize an online community meet late. Moreover, he believes preliminary attempts to connect with local residents via social media contributed to his selection.Get a Free Quote for Print
