Forest Hills webinar teaches vermicomposting

The Queens Public Library will be hosting a DIY class in March for Forest Hills residents interested in composting.

Vermicomposting: Recycling With Worms is an informative program that teaches viewers how to make their own small-scale compost systems. Gil Lopez, an urban farmer and composting advocate, will be the presenter for the virtual activity.

Topics covered during the lesson include making a home for worms, keeping worms healthy, and the right methods for harvesting from the compost system. Those who give workshops such as this may attract more audience members with flyer printing.

Gil Lopez is an eco-educator and landscape designer who moved to New York City in 2010. He works at Greening the Queens Library and is the co-creator of the Smiling Hogshead Ranch, which is an organization that hosts environmentally friendly events.

Lopez has participated in several exhibitions, including the Flux A.I.R. Show, Hogshead Hoedown, and Queens Sized Libraries. He also graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture and earned an Urban Permaculture Design Certificate from Green Phoenix University.

Vermicomposting: Recycling With Worms will be held on March 21st from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. Library patrons do not need to register to view Lopez’s online workshop. Adults are the intended audience for the composting presentation. People who are interested in reading more content from Lopez can view his blog.
