The New York Marine Rescue Center will be offering an online presentation at the Queens Public Library for Forest Hills patrons.
Cold Stun Sea Turtles with the NY Marine Rescue Center is a program in the library’s Oceans of Possibilities series where people can learn about a negative condition sea turtles may face and how they can help. The condition can occur when sea turtles are exposed to ocean environments with water temperatures below 50°F. The colder water causes the cold-blooded reptiles to slow their movements, which results in the turtles being pushed onto the shores of New York beaches.
The NY Marine Rescue Center is a non-profit formed in 1996 to aid and rehabilitate marine animals while providing the community with educational programming. Maxine Montello is the current director of the center, which offers several programs, including mock stranding sessions, marine pollution labs, and behind-the-scenes tours at the organization’s hospital. Non-profits like this may promote their activities to people at community centers and libraries by using flyer printing.
The program on cold stunning will be held on June 28 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. No registration or payment is required to see the marine center’s presentation. The video will be appropriate for families to view, and a link to the watching session is provided on the library’s website.
