Forest Hills to celebrate Hispanic culture with events

The Queens Public Library will honor Hispanic culture by hosting two activities at its Forest Hills branch over the coming months.

Those interested in celebrating Hispanic heritage can attend a workshop at the Queens Public Library where they can make their own piñatas. The activity will teach guests about the rich history of these fun containers. The organizers of the event will provide attendees with the necessary materials for creating piñatas, including colored tissue paper and a paper mâché base. The family-friendly event is open to all ages, and children must be accompanied by their caregivers.

The second event in the Hispanic Heritage series will be a presentation led by Gigi Anders, an experienced author and journalist from Cuba. Anders contributes to several publications, such as The Washington Post, the New York Post, and the Los Angeles Times. She has also written beauty-related pieces for Cosmo for Latinas. Anders attended multiple schools, including the University of Maryland, Sidwell Friends School, and NYU in Paris, France.

The workshop for creating piñatas will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. There is no cost to attend the activity, but only the first 35 people at the event will receive materials for the project.

The meeting with Gigi Anders will take place on Thursday, October 24 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Libraries that celebrate cultures with similar events may use poster printing to promote their activities.
