Forest Hills tennis nonprofit to hold tryouts

NYC Aces, a new nonprofit in Queens, is running a program that aims to provide low-cost or free tennis instruction to underserved kids and teenagers in the area. At the moment, the program is for youngsters in Forest Hills, Elmhurst, and Rego Park.

The president and executive director of the program, Jonathan Raude, is originally from Rego Park. His tennis career got started when he was a kid and found his dad's racquet in their apartment. He ended up playing tennis in high school, taking home the singles and team titles for the city. In his senior year, he won the PSAL Heisman Wingate Award, then went on to be a starter and captain of the men's tennis team at Boston College.

Organizations that are just beginning can use printing services to spread the word to people in the area about the programs and services they offer.

The training offered by NYC Aces will take place at the West Side Tennis Club, where Raude perfected his skills years ago. Several area businesses, including USTA Eastern, Madison House Presents and Ridgewood Savings Bank, have signed on to sponsor the program.

Try-outs are open to kids in pre-K through second grade. They will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on March 18 at the West Side Tennis Club.
