Forest Hills program to teach families about improv

Urban Stages will hold a workshop at the Queens Public Library in Forest Hills where families can learn about improv.

The Family Improv Adventure is a program where children and parents can bond while discovering improv techniques that can improve their communication skills. The workshop will use games to help attendees get creative and create a positive environment where participants feel comfortable building off each other’s ideas. The program is part of the library’s Summer Club series and is sponsored by the New York Life Foundation.

Urban Stages is a nonprofit group that was created in 1984 and was known initially as Playwrights Preview Productions. The organization has an outreach program where children without convenient access to the arts and theater can enjoy admission-free performances and workshops. The founder and current artistic director of Urban Stages is Frances Hill, an actress from California who has directed over 30 workshops and productions. Some programs offered by the group include Juggling 101 and the Art of Mime.

The family improv workshop series will be held on July 1st and July 8th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The intended audience for the program includes children ages 0-11. There is no price to take part in the in-person activities. Nonprofit groups that offer performance workshops like this may use flyer printing to generate more interest in their educational activities.
