Forest Hills presentation to discuss climate change

Forest Hills locals can tune into a broadcast hosted by the Queens Public Library in October to learn about how climate change impacts transportation.

Transportation and Climate Change is a program created by the Hunters Point Environmental Education Center. The presentation will cover how the two topics are related and what people can do to reclaim local streets for sustainable use.

Juan Restrepo will be leading the discussion. He works as a community organizer for Transportation Alternatives and has experience as a marketing intern for BBC America. Public speakers like Restrepo can bring Business Cards to their presentations to network with audience members.

Transportation Alternatives is a non-profit group in New York that was founded in 1973. The organization has helped construct more than 1,000 miles of bike lanes throughout the city and created over 70 public plazas. The group also assisted the city in installing a speed safety camera system. Membership fees for the organization start at $5 per month. Those who are members will receive benefits like discounts at bike-friendly stores and invites to exclusive events.

The discussion will be held on October 2 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The program is intended for adults and can be joined for free. No prior registration is needed to watch Restrepo’s presentation. Those interested in seeing the program live can visit the Queens Public Library YouTube page.
