Forest Hills library to have traditional concert

Those interested in listening to traditional music can attend a program at the Queens Public Library in Forest Hills.

Sounds Of Queens: Klezmer is a cultural arts program where audience members can hear a live performance that combines traditional dances with folk songs and original compositions. The in-person energetic experience will be led by long-time collaborators Jake Shulman-Ment and Ilya Shneyveys.

Jake Shulman-Ment is a musician from New York City who has worked with many organizations, including the Center for Traditional Music and Dance and the Henry Street Settlement. Shulman-Ment has also played alongside notable performers like Abigale Reisman, The Painted Bird, and Adrian Receanu. He even released an album titled “Out of the Narrows” with his group, Midwood.

Ilya Shneyveys is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher who has performed at many cultural festivals. He is the founder and artistic director of Forshpi and the artistic director of The Caravan Orchestra. Shneyveys is originally from Riga, Latvia and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. He has organized several picnics and jam sessions in his community.

The live performance will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. All ages are allowed to watch the show, and library patrons do not need to register for the event. Organizations that hold similar in-person concerts may use printing services to help their events attract more attention.
