Living a sustainable lifestyle may sound like a complicated process, but a Forest Hills area presentation may help to demystify the process.
A hands-on workshop that will explore the value of collecting rainwater will soon be on offer as part of the NYC Parks GreenThumb initiative. Vogue Community Garden will be the location for the workshop, which can be accessed by those who require a mobility device.
The registrants will be learning how to construct a functional rain gutter catchment system, and these can be added to garden sheds, pavilions, and other structures. It will be focused on urban spaces, and each participant will receive a kit they can take home and use to prepare a gutter set-up measuring eight feet long. There is no registration fee, and the activity is scheduled to run for six hours.
When organizing an activity that is focused on sustainability, planners will be able to source environmentally friendly items from area printing services companies. They will have a variety of tools available, and many are crafted from materials made from recycled paper and cardboard.
This introduction to the use of rain gutters in an urban garden will run from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 3. Advance registration is required, and a link for this is available on the NY Parks website.
