Farmers in the Caribbean country of Jamaica often struggle to earn enough each month to care for their families, and an event that will be taking place in Forest Hills will seek to make a difference.
Farm Up Jamaica Ltd. has organized its first ever farmers’ market and festival fundraiser, which will showcase crops grown by farmers in and around Jamaica. Those who come to the event will be able to browse through and choose high-quality produce to take home with them, and there will also be games and special performances for the kids, a live musical performance from Ky-Mani Marley, and others.
For the first time, Dr. Julius Garvey will be giving a speech initially delivered by the national hero Marcus Garvey. A local printer will be able to supply promotional Drinkware and other items that can be used during an event such as this.
Proceeds from the day will be used to help fund initiatives for Jamaican farmers to assist them in being able to grow and market organically grown, non-GMO, high-quality fruits, vegetables, and more to the world. According to Farm Up Jamaica, its goal is to offer a hand-up rather than just a hand-out.
This celebration of Jamaican agriculture has been planned for Sunday, June 11 in Roy Willkins Park. Anyone who would like to find out more about the event or its organizers has been asked to visit its website.
