Author to discuss city naming practices in Forest Hills

The library in Forest Hills will be hosting an event where an accomplished author will give a presentation about how certain structures get named in a city.

How We Name The City is an event where people can learn about the evolution of naming practices in New York City from a panel of experts. The program's guests will include Dr. Rebecca Bratspies and a few representatives from the Queens Memory Project and the Queensborough Topography Department. All ages are invited to attend this presentation. Those at the event will also participate in the Queens Name Explorer project.

Dr. Bratspies is the author of Naming Gotham: The Villains, Rogues, and Heroes Behind New York Place Names. She has also been a CUNY School of Law professor for more than 15 years. Bratspies is a member of the New York City Environmental Justice Advisory Board and the CHPAC Advisory Board. She has even been involved in projects related to environmental justice in New York. Bratspies is also known for the comic Books she created with Charlie LaGreca-Velasco.

The presentation will be on November 16 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm and will be held live at the Queens Public Library. Registration is not required to listen to the discussion, and there is no price to attend the presentation.
