Thanksgiving fun runs in Carson City

Families can choose from various distances to run or walk in next month's Carson City Turkey Trot.

Held on Thanksgiving Day, runners can participate in an 8km or 5km race, or the Gobble Wobble one-mile kids run. The annual event is hosted by St. Teresa School, which provides medals and pumpkin pies to the fastest three runners in each category. The overall top three finishers will also receive gift cards.

The races start at the governor's mansion on Mountain Street and routes wind through downtown Carson City. Entrants in the 5km race will compete on a relatively flat circular running route. The 8km route is also a circular course, but is considerably hillier than the shorter race.

More than 500 runners competed in last year's Turkey Trot, with the 8km winner finishing in just over 28 minutes, and the 5km winner crossing the finish line in 16 minutes 20 seconds. Registration for the races must be made in advance at a cost of $30 per person, or $20 for kids 12 and under competing at any distance.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the runners and walkers while enjoying hot chocolate and music. All participants will receive a race T-shirt while supplies last. Organizers of races such as this can benefit from having a good Logo Design for use on their event T-Shirts and other merchandise.

The Carson City Turkey Trot is Thursday, November 28, beginning at 8:30 am.
