The Livingston Public Library will be hosting two special events this month.
The first will be American Folk Art: An Introduction, and will be presented by Mark Medici. He will discuss the art created by tradespeople and natives, and is primarily utilitarian and decorative in comparison to the aesthetics of fine art. Medici will cover the work of Henri Rousseau, Maude Lewis, and James Castle, among other artists. This talk will be next Monday, October 4, from 7:00 to 8:15 pm.
Halloween: A Haunted History will be presented at the Livingston Public Library later this month. The speaker, Kevin Woyce, is a lecturer, author, and photographer and will discuss the history of Halloween, ranging from harvest festivals in the Old World to the family traditions held today. Woyce will cover the Orson Welles’ broadcast of “War of the Worlds” on the radio in 1938, the origins of the jack-o-lantern, famous costume makers, and the first monster movies, among other topics. His presentation will include slides of antique Halloween cards, artwork, original photographs, and movie Posters. It will take place on Monday, October 25 at 7:00 pm.
Both talks are free, open to the public, and made possible by The Friends of the Livingston Public Library. Poster printing is often used to promote such special events throughout a community.
