Outdoor fun as Livingston gets active

An upcoming event in Livingston will give people a chance to enjoy the outdoors as they take up some moderate exercise.

The Livingston Township Trails & Greenways Committee is inviting everyone to take part in the Fall Paddle, which is a relaxing paddle down the calm Passaic River. The committee will provide the paddles, canoes, and personal flotation devices for participants, although people who own their own canoes and equipment are welcome to bring them.

Paddlers will put their boats in the river at the Okner Fields Canon/Kayak Launch. The launch area can be found via a cutoff from Route 510 (South Orange Avenue). Organizers remind people who are attending to dress appropriately for the river. They should wear hats, and footwear such as old sneakers, water shoes, or boots. Flimsy shoes like flip-flops are not allowed. Paddlers should also bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent. When they plan events like this, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts to distribute locally, including instructions for clothing and equipment.

There are two paddles scheduled on Saturdays in September – one on September 6 and the second on September 20 – so people can choose the one that is more convenient. No rain dates are scheduled. The most likely causes for cancellation are low water or rain. The organizers need to know how much equipment to provide, so pre-registration is necessary.
