Concert in Livingston celebrates American music

An upcoming concert in Livingston features works that celebrate the U.S.

The Livingston Symphony Orchestra of New Jersey will appear at the Heritage Middle School in Livingston with a program of pieces all written by American composers. The Sound of Red, White, and Blue concert is suitable for all members of the family. The orchestra gave its first performance in 1956 and is now in its 64th season.

The program comprises “American Salute” by Morton Gould; “Jack and Jill at Bunker Hill” and “The Thrill of the Orchestra,” both by Russell Peck; the iconic “An American in Paris” by George Gerschwin; Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait”; and the rousing march “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

Audiences will probably be familiar with Sousa’s march, and the Gershwin and Copland pieces, but the others are less well known. “American Salute” is fast-paced and quotes other songs such as “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.” “Jack and Jill at Bunker Hill” combines music with spoken narration to tell the story of the American Revolution, and Peck’s composition “The Thrill of the Orchestra” is another narrated piece in which each instrument in the orchestra is explored

The Red, White, and Blue concert is free and is scheduled for Sunday, February 22 at 2:00 pm. Organizers of events of this type can work with brochure printing to create programs for the audience, who often enjoy learning about the music and the performers.
