The fifth annual Bike Livingston, hosted by the West Essex YMCA, was recently held in which over 300 residents from Livingston, the highest number to date participated. This event enabled families to ride together and learn about the bike routes that are the safest in Livingston to ride.
There were three routes, that ranged in difficulty and length, being four, seven or eleven miles long.
Riders were greeted by the Livingston Police Department, who checked helmets and educated participants in the use of hand signals. Shawn Klein, the Mayor of Livingston thanked the YMCA for hosting the event and explained the event’s purpose to show that the town is not only bike friendly, but is safe for pedestrians and cars as well.
Chris Clark, a professional who does bike stunts, did a special presentation and demonstrated some tricks to entertain the audience.
Helen Flores, Director of the West Essex YMCA, commented that Bike Livingston enables families to enjoy the town and engage in an activity that is healthy for the heart.
Events like this can benefit even further if its sponsors, including RWJ Barnabas Health, ShopRite of Livingston, the Healthy Community Healthy Initiative of Livingston, Inc., and Regal Bank work with a flyer printing company to create Flyers on the benefits of biking as a healthy means of transportation and the safety of the streets of Livingston.
