What began as a family celebration has become a Livingston tradition.
The first Camuso Family Christmas Display was built by Ernie Camuso and set up on his front lawn beginning in the 1960s. The center of the display is the Christmas tree Camuso built. It is 26 feet tall, rotates, has over 100 individual branches, and displays over 10,000 lights, and has a four-foot star for a tree topper. Hosts of events like this may use poster printing to create advertising or them.
The display is free, and is erected and maintained by a group of volunteers known as the Camuso Holiday Display Committee, aka the “Camuso elves.” This year, they will be raising money to improve the display by making and selling ornaments. The elves will paint names on the ornaments and put them in the display. At the end of the event, donors will collect their ornaments.
The display will open December 7 with a lighting ceremony and a performance by the Livingston Starliners Dance Team. December 26 brings a Chanukah candle, and this year, the Livingston Police Department will add their display to those already set up by the Fire and First Aid Departments. The display is open weekdays from 5.00 pm until 9.00 pm and from 5.00 pm until 10.00 pm on weekends. December 21 is a special day since Santa will attend, and there will be crafts, hot chocolate, and a wagon ride pulled by Clydesdales.
