Livingston YMCA recognized for community support

At the 39th annual dinner of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the West Essex YMCA, located in Livingston, was once again honored as the 2015 Branch of the Year.

It was recognized for the increased number of programs and outreach efforts to children and teenagers with special needs, as well as to seniors who are homebound. It was able to achieve this by securing grants worth a total of $80,000 to provide services to enhance the lives of residents in the area who would otherwise do without. This included a grant from the Ritchey Foundation for children with special needs.

According to the Executive Director of the West Essex YMCA, Helen Flores, the Y has a commitment to strengthening everyone in the community and is becoming known for its abilities and efforts to support the more underserved populations in the area.

The West Essex YMCA has partnered with the Livingston School District and the West Orange School District so that students in the school districts in middle school and high school who are afflicted with autism are able to learn how to work out safely, socialize at the Y, and take swimming lessons.

Brochure printing would be a good way for the West Essex YMCA to inform the community of these programs so as to increase its outreach towards these needy populations in the community.
