The beautification project at the Livingston Circle will be continuing this fall after a brief hiatus.
Al Anthony, member of the Livingston Township Council, said that eight cherry blossom trees are being planted in the Circle. The trees are the same as the ones seen in Washington, D.C. and at Branch Brook Park in Newark. He added that these improvements to the Circle are being made possible by revenues from state taxes rather than local taxes. As such, the township will not need to purchase equipment or use any local resources to make these updates.
Michael Vieira, also a member of the Livingston Township Council and Director of Transportation Service for Essex County, ensured that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) kept its commitment as part of its Good Neighbor Beautification Program. The funding made possible by such programs is often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
Anthony added that there will be cleaning up done in the wake of the storms early this season, and the planting of wildflowers in the spring. He said the property is rather large and can be somewhat uncertain at times, so he said he is glad that the state was able to keep its promise and make the requisite improvements.
The new cherry blossoms are expected to grow to be between 16 and 18 feet in height.
