Since it is sometimes inconvenient and difficult to dispose of electronics, and confidential material, Livingston is making it easy for residents to do so.
The upcoming Electronics Recycling & Paper Shredding Event is free, and will allow residents to dispose of unwanted, broken, or old electronics, have confidential papers shredded, and dispose of unbroken fluorescent light bulbs, all at one event. Light bulbs accepted for recycling are CFL, round bulbs, U-shaped bulbs, and 2- and 4- foot bulbs.
New Jersey mandates recycling unwanted or used electronics properly, since these items may not be placed with other items for recycling, or put out with bulk or standard garbage for routine pickups.
Organizers remind those planning to recycle their electronics to wipe all their data from all smart devices and computers before recycling them. Instructions for wiping out data can be found online very easily.
It is possible for people to drop off certain items early. These are limited to electronic devices only. No paper to be shredded, batteries, or light bulbs will be accepted. Early drop-off items are usually accepted during the two days prior to the event.
The recycling event will be held October 19, in the rear parking lot of the Senior/Community Center, located at 204 Hillside Avenue. The hours are from 9.00 am until 2.00 pm. Early drop-off days are October 17 and 18. When they plan events like this, organizers often ask printers to use flyer printing to create handouts for local distribution.
