A new all-boys robotics team from Livingston, Exit 6 Brobotics (E6B), recently participated in its first robotics tournament, the VEX IQ Challenge. It came in 9th out of 38 teams for one challenge, and 14th for another.
Its project proposal for an autonomous guide robotic was also given the STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Award.
There are three fifth-graders and two sixth-graders on the team, and they competed in the combined middle school and elementary divisions. The members were particularly excited about their accomplishments given that they were a new team participating in their first competition.
The Combined Skills portion, which consists of a Driver Skills Challenge and an Autonomous Skills challenge, is where the team came in the top 10. They finished in 14th place on the Teamwork Challenge.
The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation runs the VEX IQ Challenge competition in which open-ended robotics and research project challenges are provided to elementary and middle school students. The goal is to improve their STEM skills with hands-on learning through the use of robotics.
Project management, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills are used to judge students at VEX IQ events, as well as robot competition scores.
