June is Paint the Town Purple month at the request of Cheryl Francione, a member of the Livingston Committee for Diversity and Inclusion (LCDI) and a Livingston resident.
Susan Berkenbush, chairperson of the LCDI, commented that the mission of the committee is to consider all the differences in the citizens of the town, including ability and age. Francione added that Paint the Town Purple would help to raise awareness about dementia, Alzheimer’s, and overall brain health awareness while providing fun educational experiences.
She also commented that Paint the Town Purple would celebrate the older population in the community through intergenerational activities and enable the community to enjoy themselves while learning about these conditions and better understanding them so as not to fear them.
People would be encouraged to wear purple throughout the month. Some of the activities that are planned include forums on early Signs of mental diseases, discussions about healthy eating, and hosting exercise classes.
The building of Saint Barnabas Medical Center, for example, has been lit up in purple during the month to demonstrate good brain health, while Clarendon Adult Day Care and CareOne at Livingston Assisted Living have also got involved.
Professional flyer printing companies can make Flyers to raise awareness about such causes and the efforts made by various organizations in the community.
