Livingston agency encourages healthy activity

A Livingston agency wants residents to improve their health by making activity easy and accessible for them.

The Livingston Health Department is getting ready to start up a Walking Club that will meet on Fridays in West Orange, a short distance from Livingston. The club is free, and open to adults 18 years of age and older. Club members will meet at McLoone’s Boathouse, where free parking is available.

The walk is 1.75 miles long, and circles a reservoir. It is estimated that the event should last approximately one hour. Although parking is at the Boathouse, the South Mountain Recreation Complex, which is at 9 Cherry Lane in West Orange, is the location of the walk.

The Livingston Health Department notes that regular exercise has many benefits, including reducing the risk of developing high blood pressure, improving balance, reducing pain in the joints, and maintaining a healthy weight. In addition, walking can be done anywhere, with no additional equipment required.

The first walk is scheduled for Friday, September 20, at 10:00 am, and the walks will continue weekly at the same time and place, through Friday, November 8. It is necessary for anyone interested to pre-register with the Livingston Health Department. When activities such as this are planned, organizers may reach out to printers, asking them to use flyer printing to create handouts for attendees to help them find the event.
