Livingston to celebrate milestone

A vital part of the Livingston community is celebrating a milestone birthday and organizing a party to mark the event.

The Livingston Fire Department (LFD) turned 100 in 2021 but, because of the pandemic, it was not able to celebrate its centenary. Instead, it is throwing a party this year, and inviting the entire community.

The Livingston Fire Department’s president, Tom Cooney, has stated that the day will begin with a parade of fire apparatus. He said he hopes neighboring communities will take part and bring as many fire trucks, both modern and antique, to the event as possible. The parade route will lead from Livingston Center to Livingston High School, where all the participating departments will display their engines and other equipment, which will be judged, and prizes awarded.

Following the awards, the party moves to Memorial Park, where the LFD will hold its annual fire prevention event, as well as displaying the department’s equipment. A blowup slide, trackless train, bounce house, and several rides will also be part of the fun.

In addition, organizers are bringing back an enjoyable activity: the Annual Fireman’s Block Dance. In the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, the dance, a square dance, and country line dance, was the department’s fundraiser, drawing thousands of people. This year, the dance is back on.

The celebration is set for October 1, and will be postponed until October 8 if rain delays the proposed event. Events like these can be enhanced if organizers use banner printing to create suitable outdoor decorations.
