Durham residents wanting to gain hands-on experience with caring for and healing trees are in for a treat, as an immersive learning session is in the works.
The Tree Keeper Training will get underway in a few weeks, with the three-part learning session teaching participants the proper techniques and methods for planting trees and growing as leaders. The event, organized in conjunction with the Durham County Cooperative Extension and Keep Durham Beautiful, will cover winter tree planting to help participants get the best results.
The first class will focus on the deep details of tree planting, taking guests into the root biology of different trees native to the Durham, North Carolina, region. Attendees will receive guidance on planting ball and burlap trees and digging holes that work for different planting sites. Brochure printing can help attendees retain more information from such learning experiences.
The second session will take attendees into the basics of pruning plants and trees to encourage regrowth and health. The final class session will teach participants the skills to lead small groups of planters to combat deforestation. All sessions will be held outdoors, and interested parties are encouraged to dress for the weather.
The event will be held at the Durham County Center starting on Tuesday, October 1, with the class beginning at 3:00 PM and ending at 5:00 PM. Tickets for all three sessions are available online for $30.
