Dance theater company to make tour stop in Durham

The arts will come to life on a stage in Durham this February, when a dance theater company will perform for a live audience in town.

The National Dance Theater Company of Jamaica has announced a tour stop in Durham, allowing area residents to see the power of the dance arts live and indulge in Jamaican culture. The NDTC has been performing and touring for over six decades, spreading the island nation’s cultural legacy with impressive choreography and mesmerizing dances.

The group was established in 1962, the same year that Jamaica gained its independence. It quickly became a guiding light of culture and artistic excellence, helping to put Jamaica on the map. The performances are a mosaic movement of cultural influences combining African, European, and Caribbean traditions. Brochure printing provides a fantastic resource for planners, allowing guests to receive information about the performance and agenda.

The performance builds on what founding artistic directors Rex Nettleford and Eddy Thomas worked to achieve. The performances have been scheduled to work in tandem with Duke University’s Collegium for African Diaspora Dance. The CADD is designed to explore and promote African diaspora dance as a form of aesthetic identity.

Reynolds Industries Theater, located on Science Drive in Durham, will host the dance performance. It will start at 7:30 PM on Saturday, February 21. Tickets cost $35 per person online.
