After earlier attempts to setup a location in the Triangle, it looks like Topgolf will be successful this time with a Durham location adjacent to Research Triangle Park.
Topgolf officials recently made a presentation to Durham city leaders, as well as county leaders, concerning the latest potential site for one of its golf-themed entertainment complexes. The Dallas-based company has been looking for a location in the Triangle for the past five years.
Two locations were each considered and abandoned due to the concerns expressed by residents. This newest site is near Interstate 40 and Page Road next to Research Triangle Park here in Durham. There are no residents next to the undeveloped parcel.
No projected timeline for the venue has been offered. Topgolf has already closed on the property, but until the Durham planning approval process has been completed nothing can be done onsite.
Banner printing services are often contacted by a company to announce the opening of a new location.
The complex will cost around $25m and will create about 150 full-time and 300 part-time jobs. Generally Topgolf venues are open 9:00 am – midnight, Sunday through Thursday with evening hours extended to 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday.
In order to accommodate Topgolf’s proposed hours of operation and type of lighting, the city’s unified development ordinance will need to be amended. Exterior lighting’s effects on traffic safety, glare, and more will be taken into account.
