Fair days ahead during April in Durham

The City of Durham has several events planned in honor of National Fair House Month.

Each year in April, Durham residents and property owners are provided with opportunities to increase their knowledge and understanding of what constitutes equal housing opportunities. This year, The Neighborhood Improvement Services Department’s Human Relations Division, in conjunction with various community partners, are holding several events.

It starts tomorrow, April 8, with the City’s Human Relation Division offering ‘Know Your Rights’, a fair housing training presentation, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This program will take place at the J.J. Henderson Housing Center. Later in the month, a seminar entitled Fair Housing Training 101 will be held for housing providers in the Golden Belt Building from 10:00 am to 11:45 am on April 16.

In addition, another free event will be held on April 23, ‘Know Your Rights’, a bilingual fair housing training presentation will take place at the Latino Community Credit Union from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. All three of these events are free and open to the public.

With so much information to absorb, the services provided by brochure printers will no doubt go a long way in facilitating housing education.

Durham Public Schools will take part as well, with its Fair Housing Education Week during April 27 to 30. One hour presentations will be held for 5th Grade students by the City’s Human Relation Division, during which diversity exercises and discussion on fair housing will take place.
