The Duke Homestead State Historic Site is holding its annual ‘Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts Festival’ in just over a week.
The festival is a celebration of the history and culture of North Carolina food. Attendees can enjoy the music of Steph Stewart & the Boyfriends, tour the historic Duke Homestead site, and, of course, enjoy good old fashioned North Carolina cooking.
The event includes a BBQ contest in which guests can participate by selecting a People’s Choice winner, as well as a Pie Contest where the winner is chosen solely by a panel of judges. The festival is not just about eating though; it makes for an educational experience as well.
At the Duke Homestead, there will be historic cooking demonstrations and a discussion of what was involved in food storage and preparation during the 1800s. Visitors can tour the Duke family’s home, circa 1852. There, they can see the toys and games of the period. Additionally, they can learn more about the daily family life of the former occupants of the house.
A North Carolina Historic Site, the Duke attracts both in-state and out-of-state tourists all year round. States will often utilize numerous Brochures and postcard printing services to promote such tourist attractions.
