Durham hosts African festival

The AfroSocaLove: Durham Black August One Love Festival will take place this August.

The festival aims to create new connections within the African diaspora through culture, arts, and neighborhood activities. It will also highlight Black-owned businesses.

Organized by AfroSocaLove, the festival welcomes all ages, with free entry for kids 16 and younger. Attendees can expect to enjoy music, food, and a friendly atmosphere.

The festival will feature different genres of music such as Soca, afrobeat, dancehall, reggae, salsa, merengue, reggaeton, zouk, hip-hop, Kompa, and R&B, as well as live shows and DJs from across the region.

Tickets are available for purchase through the Eventbrite listing. VIP tickets will offer fast access, a VIP host, and occasional seating and tabling services. Purchased tickets will be emailed, and any inquiries can be directed to ticketing@afrosocalove.com.

Attendees should note that cameras with switchable lenses are not allowed without an authorized photo pass.

Vendors can also apply through Eventbrite, with fees ranging from $150 to $250. Criteria for vendors are detailed in the application document, and only selected vendors will be contacted.

The event will be on Friday, August 23 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Durham County Board, 201 North Roxboro St. Doors will open at 11:00 am, giving people plenty of time to get settled in.
