Durham awaits sketch comedy masterclass

An upcoming workshop in Durham will delve into the foundational aspects of sketch comedy.

Led by Achilles Stamatelaky, a versatile screenwriter, performer, and director, the course caters to individuals at various skill levels, and will accommodate both beginners and those seeking to refine their sketchwriting abilities.

The curriculum, curated by Stamatelaky, encompasses the entire creative process of sketch comedy, from the inception of embryonic ideas to the crafting of well-defined comedic premises. Participants will be guided through an array of techniques and best practices, not only in sketch writing, but also in exploring the intersections of these principles with improvisation and diverse creative pursuits. Achilles Stamatelaky, brings a wealth of experience to the workshop. Commencing his comedy journey in 2005, primarily at The UCB Theatre NY, he has served as the Associate Artistic Director and contributed as a writer, improviser, and director throughout his career. His background includes teaching improv and sketch writing at the UCB Training Center, as well as sitcom writing at NYU.

Stamatelaky's portfolio extends to national commercials and successful projects such as Broad City, in addition to the development of numerous film, TV, and new media ventures.
