U-Haul recently conducted research that points to North Carolina’s population increase continuing, as significantly more people are moving into the state than are emigrating out of it.
According to U-Haul, in 2015 North Carolina was its top growth state, with the states of Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and California trailing behind. The information the company gleaned from its approximately 1.7 million one-way U-Haul trips is merely a continuation of a pattern of net migration for North Carolina.
U-Haul’s study corresponds with the U.S. Census Bureau’s recent report ranking the state as ninth in population. The Bureau’s report shows that as of July 1, 2015 North Carolina had in excess of 10 million residents.
Although the state was first in population growth none of North Carolina’s cities cracked the list of Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities of 2015, which also came out of the U-Haul study. It appears that North Carolina enjoyed population growth throughout the state; it was not concentrated in any one area.
It was, however, primarily the large metropolitan areas that attracted new residents to the state and all metro areas experienced steady growth in 2015, including Durham.
