The exhibits will feature Haigh’s nature studies of alligators, crocodiles and fish through a variety of different media. Haigh uses patterned imagery and color on paper to represent the natural world. The artist is well known within the Lowertown area of St. Paul for both his visual art and his music, playing as part of the punk-ska band the Skaskateers. Promotional material emphasizes thematic interpretations of Haigh’s art:
“Robert explores how each possesses their own identity, yet humans have adorned them with the concepts of Inclusiveness, creativity, legacy, personal growth, resilience and wisdom.”
The exhibition will kick off with an opening reception, coinciding with the gallery’s Lowertown First Fridays monthly event. These receptions often allow a chance to hear directly from the artist, enjoy refreshments, and be among the first to see the exhibit. Exhibits like this often use placards and brochure printing to help better put the artist’s vision in context. The Calendula Gallery aims to showcase emerging artists, with the Haigh exhibition to be followed by a spring art crawl and a solo exhibit by Jared Arvin.
“The Alligator/Crocodile and The Fish” will be available to view at the Calendula Gallery in St. Paul during weekends from March 7 to April 13.
