Upper Marlboro hosts three-day equestrian event

The seventh annual Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival (MAEF) recently concluded at the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro.

The MAEF is one of the most well-known events in equestrian competition, and has a reputation on the East Coast for the most sought-after awards. Winners not only receive prestigious titles but the best brands of saddles, bridles, riding coats and shirts, among other items for horseback riding.

In addition, this year the festival gave out over $6,500 in scholarship money. The scholarships are made possible by the Maryland Horse Industry Board, VA – MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, the Maryland Horse Industry Board, and the R.W. Mutch Foundation.

Founders Mary Beebee and Ellen Shevella said that the competition provided fun, friendships, and awards, and the all-important educational opportunities for young riders.

Many classes were held over the three-day event, including classes for the beginner rider with fences two feet in height, low child and adult with fences just over two feet high, and jumping seat classes. There were two parades, including the Little Bitty Lead Line Costume Parade and the Exhibition Costume Parade. There was also a college fair and among the fun activities were saddle shopping, a pizza party, cupcake draws, and a Sunday brunch.

Events like this one often use poster printing for promotional purposes to encourage young riders in their pursuit of equestrian endeavors.
